Municipality of Ittigen
Some municipalities look to us for guidance in crafting their strategy, while others invite us to produce their content and oversee their channels. Some seek our expertise to empower their staff with the skills to manage it all independently. With our holistic approach - designing strategies, creating and publishing content or passing on knowledge - Die Schwedin. supports municipalities where they need it.
Municipal communication is important - and diverse! Communication should reach residents, local businesses and organizations as well as cantonal authorities. Die Schwedin. supports municipalities in all communication issues - customised to individual needs and requirements. Our services include:
- Starter course for social media managers of municipalities - with this training programme we make teams fit for Facebook & Co. and stand by their side as a sparring partner.
- Social media strategy for efficient community communication - we analyse the status quo in detail and develop an implementable concept tailored to the community's resources.
- Content and community management - we deliver targeted content (text, images, video), ensure visibility and manage the community.
Ittigen's digital town square
Die Schwedin. has been supporting the municipality of Ittigen since 2022. The Bernese agglomeration municipality has a population of just under 12,000. Many commuters are drawn to Ittigen because many federal offices, as well as companies such as Swisscom, are based here. In order to inform the various target groups better and faster, stimulate discussion and breathe life into the community, the municipality commissioned us to set up a social media presence - from the strategy to the mix of topics.
Social media concept
After a kick-off meeting with Eliane Stöckli, Ittigen`s communications specialist, we started developing a comprehensive social media concept. We analyzed the presence of surrounding municipalities, researched target groups, defined goals, developed a content strategy for the various platforms, and identified options for managing and promoting the channels.
We recommended a coherent trio - Facebook, LinkedIn and Instagram - for resident communication in order to maximize the reach the largest range of the population:
- Facebook remains the number one social media platform (63% of Swiss people still go on Facebook at least occasionally) for different age groups, making it indispensable.
- LinkedIn provides information to interested individuals in a professional environment and also positions the municipality as an employer.
- Instagram is the perfect complement to LinkedIn and Facebook, as younger people use it often.
A practical Style-Guide
For a uniform visual language, we created modern and meaningful design templates on Canva for Ittigen. Staff can easily customize the templates themselves and design professional and coherent posts.
A colorful mix of topics
Ittigen shares a variety of information, from crucial security alerts and announcements about upcoming events such as the municipal assembly, to content that fosters a sense of community. Their offerings also include engaging activities like puzzle fun, which promotes participation and sparks enjoyable conversations on social media. We collaborated to ensure their social media channels were comprehensive, entertaining, and engaging, covering all these topics effectively.
Fit for social media with training
How do you create engaging content using simple design templates? How can posts be promoted correctly so they reach the correct target group? And, importantly, how can you ensure content is only informative and entertaining? The municipality is fit for social media after completing our training in all of these areas.
Share and help where it hurts the most
The municipality of Ittigen now communicates via Facebook, LinkedIn and Instagram. With a clear appearance, simply formulated messages and contemporary content, the municipality has succeeded in creating a digital village centre. During the project start from from October to December 2023, we closely supported the municipality on its social media journey.
The municipality of Ittigen now manages its social media presence independently, with Die Schwedin. continuing to support Eliane Stöckli and her team in word and deed as a sparring partner.
